Is art subjective? Guggenheim in Bilbao

I had an experience that made me think about what is art in the Guggenheim in Bilbao. Being from a family with some kind of art background, it was a little complicated to grow up without a bone of creativity on your body, so that was one of the main causes for my awful relationship with it. During several years, you would talk to me about art, and I would probably change the subject.Guggenheim in Bilbao

On my early twenties, I finally made my peace with it, that doesn’t mean that I’m an art connoisseur, by the contrary, I just learned to appreciate it.

But even having grown to enjoy it, doesn’t mean that I like what’s hip on the moment, or that I like something, that it’s supposed to be a great piece of art,  sometimes I do, other times I just don’t.

And then there are that couple of times that I find it so simple or weird, that I just go to that place in my head where I start saying “even I could do that”  or the all time best “What the fuck!!”

I’m aware that even an extremely simple looking piece of art, has to leave someone’s head, and even if I would be able to do it, I’d probably never think about it. Honestly the only reason that allows me not to think that it was the worst 10€ spent in my life it’s the amazing architecture of the building, that had me captivated, I passed most of the my time taking pics of the weird angles that it has.

One of the things that I can say that I accomplished with this trip was visiting my second Guggenheim, I already had been in Venice, and even with my aversion to some types of art, it still is on my bucket list a visit to every Guggenheim in the world.

But, even after, or mostly after  this exhibition I can keep on saying that art is really subjective.
